• Conduct thorough assessments and clinical evaluations, including making diagnostic impressions and implementing SBIRT protocols.
• Maintain accurate records and reports to monitor clients' progress, services offered, and pertinent details.
• Provide counseling to assist clients in overcoming obstacles, adjusting to life changes, and fostering positive transformations; refer clients to appropriate community or social service programs.
• Assist clients in accessing treatment by arranging psychiatric assessments, coordinating medical stabilization, applying for health insurance, securing treatment funding, and collaborating with clients' support systems when needed.
• Assess clients' mental and physical well-being in conjunction with other professionals to determine the suitable level of care.
• Track and assess clients' progress toward measurable treatment goals through follow-up sessions and evaluations.
• Advocate for clients in crisis situations and intervene promptly to address urgent issues.
• Coordinate with mental health professionals, legal entities, probation officers, and post-treatment organizations to ensure smooth care transitions.
• Work with other professionals to assess client needs and develop personalized treatment plans.
• Educate clients and community members on addiction-related topics and available services, providing referrals as necessary.
• Offer support and guidance to family members and concerned individuals to help them understand and assist individuals dealing with substance abuse.

Qualifications: To qualify for the Substance Abuse Counselor position in Baltimore, MD, US, candidates must hold one of the following certifications:

• Having a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) certification is a must.
• Having a Licensed Graduate Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LGADC) certification is required.
• Obtaining a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD) certification is mandatory.
• Possessing a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD) certification is necessary.
• Obtaining an Addiction Trainee (ADT) certification is a prerequisite.
