Job Description

Position Open: Immediately

Hours Per Week: 40 hours, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 4:00 pm – 12:00 am

(These hours could be negotiated to substitute Monday or Tuesday.)

This position requires working on holidays, if the holiday falls on these scheduled days. This position can also choose to be on-call and work other shelter shifts as other staff request off. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Attendance is critical to shelter operation at this position.

Benefits:

Vacation: 5 days after 1 year; 7 days after 2 years; 10 days after 3 years; 12 days after 4 years; 15

days after 5 years

Paid Mandatory Personal Leave: 8 days

Paid Optional Personal Leave: 5 days after year 1 & 2; 7.5 days after year 3 & 4; 10 days after

year 5

Wage: $15.50 an hour, non-exempt position

Other Requirements:

Ø Must provide Release of Information Authorization Forms

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ø Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and relate well with people

Ø Must have good judgement and organizational skills

Ø Must have good decision-making skills

Ø Must be creative and have good listening skills

Ø Must have the ability to keep information and processes of the agency as well as client information confidential

Ø Ability to multitask and maintain concentration in a crisis environment

Ø Must be computer literate and able to operate Microsoft Office software

Ø Must be able to operate internal phone systems

Ø Must be able to climb stairs, lift up to 30 pounds, bend, squat, twist, and stand for long periods of time

Education and Experience:

Ø One year of experience working with trauma victims, victims of crime, or vulnerable populations or

Ø One year of experience working in the health care field or mental health field with patient care or

Ø Three years of customer service working directly with the public in front-facing positions or

Ø High school or college student or graduate pursuing a degree in social work, psychology, sociology, teaching, nursing, criminal justice, or a related field.

The Shelter Advocate will, under general supervision, manage Moss House and the related services provided within Moss House. Basically, this position administers the shelter programs and provides intensive assistance to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children during the evening hours.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Ø Provide direct interaction with clients

Ø Provide case management and crisis intervention as needed

Ø Supervise all client activities in shelter

Ø Answer and properly log hotline calls

Ø Answer office phone and door

Ø Secure the shelter at curfew and set the alarm

Ø Supervise the meal times by supervising cooking of the meals, eating habits, and distribution of clean-up duties

Ø Provide support to clients and children in shelter

Ø Provide discipline alternatives as needed

Ø Prepare intake documentation on new clients and provide crisis intervention

Ø Maintain statistical information as required

Ø Promote client interaction and diffuse any client disagreements

Ø Maintain accurate documentation on each client

Ø Enter documentation into client database

Ø Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States

Ø Wear a mask when interacting with clients or community, if required by employer
