Schedule Information: Per course schedule; maintains a minimum of 15 contact hours of teaching, with release time for program coordination, and 6 office hours per week for student consultation; evening and weekend instruction may be required. Serves on college committees; participates in departmental and division initiatives.
Weeks per fiscal year: Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May) - this position requires an additional commitment in the Summer from May thru August. Additional compensation will be awarded for this time period.

Position Description and Duties: The Harper College Nursing Program seeks a full-time, tenure track faculty member to provide instruction in and coordination of the Psych Tech program. Located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Harper's Nursing program has excellent, long-standing partnerships with clinical agencies in the Chicagoland area, offering degree and certificate programs for students seeking immediate employment in health careers. With state-of-the-art facilities, Harper is home to a nursing laboratory and interprofessional simulation hospital, where real-world procedures and situations are simulated and practiced.
The Psych Tech certificate program provides theory and training in the skills essential to unlicensed assistive workers who will assist the health care team in the care of patients in a variety of mental health settings. The Psych Tech program will allow students to meet all requirements and be prepared for the CNA license exam as well as Level 1 and Level 2 AAPT certifications. Instruction includes didactic instruction, simulated practice and opportunities for clinical application. The Psych Tech Program Coordinator will be responsible for the development of curricula and implementation of the program, providing instruction and facilitating job placement and career readiness for graduates.
Didactic and clinical instruction of students in the nursing programs including course development, updating and submitting course syllabi in required format, assessing student outcomes, research and development of resources for instruction, and utilization and development of instructional design methods that include technology (simulation). Timely evaluation of students including reporting of student grades and progress is required.
Candidates should possess expertise in areas such as mental health, patient care, organization, communication, classroom management, curriculum development (including writing syllabi), and developing/teaching nursing classes using traditional and alternative delivery methods.
Six office hours per week for student consultation and advisement and participation in professional development, both internal and external, to remain credentialed in nursing and to advance in the instructional role are required.
The successful candidate will participate in and contribute to program, divisional and institutional committees, assignments, and activities. Committee work will include assignment to a faculty nursing committee.
Educational Requirements: Master's Degree with a major in Nursing is required. Candidates must have a current unencumbered Registered Nurse license (Illinois) or eligibility for Illinois license and current CPR or BLS certification.
Experience Requirements: Minimum 3 years nursing practice in mental health areas; nursing experience is defined as providing hands on nursing care for patients in a community, acute care or long-term mental health facility. Varied nursing experience is preferred. Teaching experience preferred.
