POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing ensures delivery of quality patient care by nursing personnel and other designated staff via effective planning, organization, and evaluation of use of material, fiscal and human resources. The Director of Nursing assures that programs operate according to the policies and procedures of Equitas Health and the standards of licensing, credentialing, and funding authorities under which Equitas Health operates. The position is responsible for maintaining patient safety, the quality and adequacy of nursing practice; coordinating nursing and training programs; and for recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems in an assigned area. The Director of Nursing oversees the organization’s Infection Control Program. This position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge and expertise in chronic disease management and care coordination. 

SALARY:$105,600-$132,000

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Nursing will have oversight of clinical practice and policy for all clinical staff at all Equitas Health practice locations. The Director of Nursing responsibilities include, but are not limited to, provider relations, financial accountability, strategic planning, budgeting, and quality improvement. This is a highly visible administrative role which will partner with staffed providers, physician partners, clinical leadership, and others in executive management. The Director will be charged with continuing to identify areas in need of process improvement and will develop and manage implementation plans around such activities as they relate to clinical quality improvement and cost effectiveness. Areas of daily focus include staff technical training, evaluation of technical abilities and skills, annual and regular interval competencies, technical processes and related policies.MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises and provides clinical and operational guidance to the Nurse Leads at each site.
  • Oversees hiring, termination procedures, and professional development of all nursing staff.
  • Develops, implements and monitors the Rights of Medication and Rights of Nursing Delegation Protocols.
  • Collaborates with the Population Health team to operate RN Care Coordination services for the organization.
  • Assist in the development of health center policies and procedures in partnership with the health center leadership team (clinical and operational) to be in compliance with Federal, State and Equitas Health standards.  
  • Work with Nurse Leads to oversee healthcare staff clinical competency development and training.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute clinical protocols to health center staff.
  • Directs and implements clinical staff educational programs including, but not limited to, orientation and in service for licensed and unlicensed clinical staff personnel. 
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of the applicable budgetary components. Consistently plans service within the established budget guidelines. 
  • Creates and implements training, utilization, safety, and peer review processes for clinical staff.  
  • Works with ancillary services in order to prevent delays in services.   
  • Provides clinical guidance on the implementation of new medical center service lines.
  • Reports monthly progress on quality of services and key performance indicators.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop and support organizational objectives and strategic plans.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments to ensure compliance with PCMH and Meaningful Use standards.
  • Coordinates with the Quality Department to design and implement quality improvement initiatives and data reporting needs such as the UDS, RSR and other quality metrics related to population health and performance improvement.
  • Develop Infection Control Plan, update annually and oversees the monitoring of infection control activities detailed within.
  • Establishes and implements infection control and employee health orientation programs, alongside departmental directors throughout the organization.
  • Assists with developing and revising policies and procedures regarding infection control and employee health.
  • Keeps current with CDC/DHEC information and guidelines regarding any infectious outbreaks and assists with tracking and documenting patient and employee exposures, and implementing appropriate infection control protocols.
  • Provides consultation and education to staff, providers and community leaders in Infection Control and Prevention.
  • Performs bloodborne pathogen exposure assessment and follow up.
  • Works with operations, compliance and safety to ensure cleaning procedures support infection control standards.
  • Responsible to appropriately and accurately resolve all assigned incident reports to determine causes and implement corrective actions.  
  • Assists in the continued development and operations of the sexual health program.
  • Maintains and develops strong working relationships with local, regional, and national agencies involved in HIV and LGBTQ+ healthcare.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


EDUCATION/LICENSURE:

  • Ohio licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. 
  • Current certification in CPR/BLS 


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Qualifications
:

  • Minimum four years of experience in working in a direct healthcare environment. Additional four years of progressive management and responsibility in an ambulatory practice environment
  • Previous administrative level management and project management preferred.
  • Subject matter expertise and experience in PCMH, Comprehensive Primary Care, FQHC, population health, clinical integration, and chronic care models preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing practice standards.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, computer and communication skills are required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop long-term professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Differentiated sense of self-motivation, direction and flexibility with comfort in a high-paced work environment.
  • Ability to manage direct reports over a geographical distance.
  • Strong organizational development capabilities with effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial and business operations background with ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to analyze an issue or opportunity and provide viable solutions and alternatives.
  • Capacity to manage a variety and complex assortment of projects simultaneously and work with managers/directors/executives at all levels both internal and external to the organization.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations including those who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community preferred.
  • Must have sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, and a demonstrated competence in working with persons of color and LGBTQ+ community.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications required.  Experience with EPIC preferred and ability to learn new technologies, web tools, and basic design tools is imperative.
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid Ohio driver’s license. Ability to travel within the assigned territory.
